The Right Way to Exfoliate Your Body (Frequency, Tools, Order)

🕒 2 min read✎ The Velura Journal24 July 2026

Body exfoliation goes wrong in two directions: never, or every day with a rough glove. The evidence-based middle:

Frequency: once a week for normal skin, twice for oily/KP-prone, every 10 days for sensitive. Tools ranked: chemical exfoliants (lactic acid, urea) gentlest and most even; konjac sponges and soft cloths middle; salt scrubs and rough gloves last — they exfoliate by micro-tearing. Order: exfoliate in the shower, on wet skin, before cleansing (cleanser washes residue away), then moisturise within three minutes — freshly exfoliated skin loses water at double the rate.

The rule that overrides all others: if skin is red for more than 30 minutes after, it was too much — gentler tool or lower frequency, not "push through".
