After Sun Care: The 3 Steps That Prevent Peeling
After-sun care isn't a separate product category — it's a job description. Sun-exposed skin has lost water, its barrier is stressed, and inflammation is running. Three things fix that.
1. Cool the skin down
A cool (not ice-cold) shower or damp compress lowers surface temperature and calms the inflammatory response. Skip hot water for 24 hours.
2. Rehydrate immediately
Sun exposure massively increases water loss. A humectant-plus-emollient formula on damp skin is the single most useful step — far more effective than a scented "after sun" spray that evaporates.
3. Calm, don't treat
Panthenol soothes; retinol, acids and scrubs wait until skin is back to normal. And if skin is blistering, that's a pharmacist or GP visit — not a cosmetics question.
The 48-hour rule
Keep hydrating twice daily for two days. Peeling happens when dehydrated skin gives up — hydration reduces it noticeably.
Does all three jobs: Velura Hydra Silk with panthenol — no sting on sun-stressed skin.
